Visit Paws on the Parkway: Pet Fair & Adoption Event

September event at CityGate Centre supports Naperville Area Humane Society

Paws on the Parkway, a pet fair and adoption event supporting the Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS), will be held noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at CityGate Centre, Rte. 59 and I-88 in Naperville.

Hosted by CityGate Centre property manager Calamos Real Estate LLC, the day will include pet service exhibits such as veterinary care, training, cleanup services, daycare and boarding, and homemade, healthy foods and treats with samples and coupons. K-9 and pet training demonstrations are also planned, and music will be provided by a DJ.

A selection of ready-to-adopt NAHS dogs will be on-site, along with a catalog of all the available animals who remain at the shelter, located just across the interstate from CityGate Centre.

With its mission “to promote the humane treatment of companion animals and create lasting human-animal bonds,” seeing a shelter animal become a beloved family pet is a prime activity for NAHS. But raising funds is critical to achieving its mission.

While adoption fees generally are in the range of a few hundred dollars, sheltering and caring for a single animal—particularly one of the many who come to NAHS sick or hurt—can cost thousands of dollars before it is ready for adoption.

“We included a pet fair with the adoption event to add some fun and engage families with pets—even those who may not have adoption on their radar right now—to come out, learn about products and services, get coupons and samples, and enjoy themselves,” said Calamos Real Estate SVP Ken Witkowski. “While they’re here, they can support the Humane Society by purchasing raffle tickets, eating at a CityGate Centre restaurant or giving a direct donation to the organization to help care for all those animals they can’t take home.”

Exhibitors include Pet Wants, which delivers nutrient-dense, natural pet foods; The Welcome Waggin’, providing in-home veterinary care; Dog Training Elite which trains family pets as well as service dogs and therapy dogs; Pet Suites which provides doggy daycare, boarding, grooming and more; and Pet Butler, which provides dog poop scooping services and waste removal to homes and multi-family communities.

Admission for family-friendly Paws on the Parkway is free. A raffle—featuring prizes donated by the exhibitors and other area businesses—along with designated restaurant proceeds will raise funds for NAHS.

Restaurants at CityGate Centre will offer a two-part coupon for Paws on the Parkway: A day-of coupon donating a portion of proceeds to the NAHS, and a next-visit piece with an offer for the guest. Tap In Pub, Lavazza, Che Figata and Zorba Cocktail Bar will be open during the event with pet-friendly patio dining.
